ORCS ARE A FEARSOME RACE of brawny, feral humanoids. They are among the eldest races in the world and their oral histories recount events as far back as thirty thousand years ago. At some point long before the rise of the elven empires, orcs were widespread across Lanjyr. They were giants in ancient days who embodied earth, fire, and storm; fearless warlords of legendary fortitude and tactical genius. Despite their prowess, the orcs fell from prominence. Eventually their people were decimated in wars against the elves and later enslaved by humanity.
Because their populations are so widely dispersed, orcish customs vary considerably, but most share a hatred of humans and elves. While many orc tribes are primitive and savage, some form militaristic hordes while others are unobtrusive hunter-gatherers. The insight and intellect of the legendary Le Roye Bruse notwithstanding, very few orcs are civilized in any way, and fewer still can manage the complexities of a large city. Populous across Ber, orcs are getting swept up in their nation’s industrial development. More and more are forced to seek employment as heavy laborers as their tribal lands are overlaid with highways, factory towns, and strip mines.
An orc possesses green to gray skin and greasy dark hair. Their facial features are ostensibly human-like, though they exhibit apish and porcine characteristics to degrees dependent on their clan or region of origin. Most orcs, regardless of territory, have prominent lower tusks.
All orcs have the following racial traits.
+4 Strength, –2 Intelligence, -2 Wisdom, –2 Charisma: Orcs are mighty but savage and simpleminded.
Darkvision: Orcs can see in the dark up to 60 feet.
Ferocity: An orc remains conscious and can continue fighting even if its hit point total is below 0. It is still staggered and loses 1 hit point each round. A creature with ferocity still dies when its hit point total reaches a negative amount equal to its Constitution score.
Light Sensitivity: Orcs are dazzled in bright light.
Weapon Familiarity: Orcs are always proficient with greataxes and falchions, and treat any weapon with the word “orc” in its name as a martial weapon.
Languages: Orcs begin play speaking Common and Orc. Orcs with high Intelligence scores can choose from among the following bonus languages: Dwarven, Elven, Giant, Gnoll, Goblin, Undercommon.
