The aquatic aventi are human-like descendants of a long-sunken civilization. They are primarily found among the magnificent towers and domes of New Aventus in the deep ocean southwest of the Yerasol Archipelago, though they have small kingdoms and fortresses scattered across the seas. A proud people, the aventi hold personal honor in high regard. They are also exceedingly bellicose and protective of their habitat—the Aventi’s habit of sinking merchant and military vessels does little to endear them to humanity, though they usually escort the sailors of these sunk ships safely to land. While some aventi are open to relations with land-dwellers, most prefer to avoid entangling themselves in human affairs and never disclose the exact whereabouts of their undersea kingdoms.
The aventi are traditional and devout. They owe their existence to Saint Aventus, a powerful cleric of Gozreh believed to have transmogrified their race into their aquatic forms; thereby saving them from extinction. Theirs is a regimented society full of etiquette, rituals and duties; but they have learned to expect less formality from other races. Aventi are pleasantly surprised when land-dwellers match their standards of courtesy, honor, and bravery.
Aventi are nearly indistinguishable from humans—standing between 5 and 6 feet tall with lean builds. Their skin colors range broadly from dark brown to pale white, but all aventi display a subtle, shimmering patina of bluish-green. Their calves and forearms feature fan-like swimming fins that fold flat when they leave the water, and the gill-ridges on the sides of their necks are barely discernible save when they are breathing water.

Aquatic: Aventi are humanoids with the aquatic and human subtypes.
Amphibious (Ex): Aventi can breathe water or air equally well, without limitation.

Natural Swimmer (Ex): Aventi enjoy a +8 racial bonus on any Swim check to perform some special action or avoid a hazard. Aventi move normally on land (30 feet).
Water Spell Power (Ex): The magic that saved the aventi from destruction persists to the present day. An aventi spellcaster’s effective caster level is +1 for spells with the water descriptor.
Human Blood: For all effects related to race, an aventi is considered a human. They are vulnerable to spells and effects that target humans and they can use human-specific magic items.
