Tieflings are descended from humans cursed with fiendish, extraplanar energies. When the goddess Srasama died, the nation of Danor became a dead magic zone, and many in that land were marked by a curse, turning them into tieflings. In the centuries since, however, the tieflings have come to rule that nation, and in the last few decades they have begun a revolution of industry and super-science almost as powerful as the magic they lack.

Physical Description: Tieflings’ appearance testifies to their infernal curse. They have large horns, thick, nonprehensile tails that range in length from 4 to 5 feet; sharply pointed teeth; and eyes that are solid orbs of black, red, white, silver, or gold. Their skin color covers the whole human range and also extends to reds, from a ruddy tan to a brick red. Their hair, cascading down from behind their horns, is as likely to be dark blue, red, or purple as more common human colors.

Relations: Tieflings are assumed by most Risuri to be loyal citizens of Danor, their ancient enemies. The armistice between those nations of the past few years has allowed more and more tieflings to go unchallenged in Risur, and many have come to do business or simply start new lives away from the stifling culture of their racial homeland. Crisillyiri find the atheistic fiends nigh-intolerable, while nature-oriented beings see the tiefling’s pollution-spewing industries as a threat to all they hold dear. Dwarves, however, appreciate tieflings as kindred, profit-minded spirits.

Alignment: Tieflings can be any alignment but are often lawful neutral or lawful evil, as the culture of Danor stresses iron discipline, logic, and self-reliance. Most reject any form of religious faith and are not at all charitable—seeing the poor as rabble who deserve their lot. Most are ruthless profiteers, and believe it is natural and right for the strong to rise at the expense of the weak.

Language: The tieflings of Danor speak Common with an aristocratic precision, as their schools and academies are strict in maintaining the language’s purity. Each mysteriously develops a natural fluency in either Abyssal or Infernal.

For some, the chosen name is a noble quest. For others, it’s a grim destiny.

Adventurers: Tieflings are complex creatures and may adventure for any number of reasons, the most common being the opportunity to improve their martial skills and acquire capitol for some future business venture. A tiefling adventurer in Risur may be working for one of Danor’s mercantile guilds or noble houses, and may find her loyalties tested.
